Information security awareness training for the general public is dull for the audience and difficult for the instructor!
Training that teaches skills in a specific field naturally holds the listener’s attention, but the personal information protection or information security training that most companies and institutions conduct twice a year has an atmosphere no different from reserve-forces training.
Training for public-agency managers who listen with their arms crossed is even more challenging.
While delivering training in many places and thinking it over, I found a tool on the Internet that is a little childish but useful.
I tried this tool in several training sessions and saw results.
That tool is…. “Word Combination Puzzle” program. (The answer in the figure below is “automatic update”.)
This tool is a word-combination game that “Kim Jeong-sik” created in Flash from a brain game used on an old TV program. (If you search the Internet for “web word-combination puzzle“ you can download it, and several similar programs are also available.)
This tool consists of one executable file and one configuration file.~~
The configuration file “data.txt” can be modified to match the presenter’s intent for the title, the question, the method of scrambling the words (for example: random characters, up-and-down movement, wave, zoom, and so on), and similar settings, so it is easy to use.
A more effective way to use this tool is
to recall important keywords with it when you summarize a chapter in the middle of the training.
Preparing a small gift for those who answer correctly is also an effective way to raise participation and concentration.
For everything else, you will need to use your own presentation style.
Alternatively, it also works well to build a quiz from important keywords or important points of internal rules as a review at the end of the training session. ^^
